Selecting an affordable business card can be challenging. Having one can be looked as an extension of you and your business. With that in mind, there are some decisions to make when creating one. Often times, these small, yet simple marketing tools can help create a great first impression on clients and potential customers.

The appearance can enhance the credibility of your brand and business while creating an image of professionalism.

Often times, a poorly designed business card can hurt business opportunities and ultimately reflect badly on your business brand. Before the design goes to print, make sure you look over everything closely. Having another set of eyes can help, so ask close friends or co-workers about the design.

What to Include in Your Business Card Design

Names:

The names on the business card should naturally be the most obvious feature. The names often include the organization, or business, the individual, along with a job title. The placement and size of the names should involve careful consideration to gain the maximum effect. For example, do you want the name of the business to be the most prominent name, or should the focus go to towards the employee?

Address:

If your business has a mailing address or a physical location, then it should be included on the business card. You may even want to include a map located on the back of the card to give it a unique look and it can help customers find your business easier. If the business is based online only, then there is no need to include an address on the business card.

Phone Numbers:

The most direct line should be listed first if an employee has multiple phone numbers. Additionally, if using multiple numbers, it’s recommended to have them separated with characters such as a period or hyphen to keep them legible. Try to make sure it’s consistent with the design you select and check to make sure the information is accurate.

Business Website and Email Address:

A vital component of your business is its web presence. You want potential customers to be able to contact you and learn about your business online. Including the website is essential for an online business, and it’s also great for a brick-and-mortar company too. Having an email address displayed on your business card is crucial for a modern card. It’s ok to include social media links, as it’s another way for a business to connect with its customers.

Description of Services or Business Tagline:

An accurate description or a tagline of your company can communicate useful and helpful information for the customers. You can also list a few of the services and products offered.

QR Codes:

Adding this interactive feature to your business card will allow clients to easily scan it with their smart phone and promptly be directed to your website or a designated landing page.Below we are going to look at some crucial parts of a business card that makes them an effective marketing tool.

Business Card Designs

Business Logo:

If you have a logo, make sure you include it when designing the business card. It can help establish businesses identity (brand identity)and provide customers with an image to relate with.

Product Images:

If your business includes selling several products or even one product, you can include a few of the businesses best-selling items and include them on your business card.

Color Options:

Although including bright colors may make your business card stand out, it’s not always the best route to take with the design. Selecting complimentary colors that are engaging can add to the professional appearance. Of course, it should be consistent with your business logo, and branding of the company.

Readability and Decorative Elements:

Selecting the right font can be challenging. When choosing the style and size of the font, you’ll need to make sure it’s legible once printed. This includes decorative elements and color choice for your card including lines and boxes that can be used to separate information. Also, this can include printing features including Spot UV, Inline foil and Stamped Foil. All features that can enhance your business card design.Incorporating great information with an effective design can boost your networking prospects and build credibility for your business.Incorporating great information with an effective design can boost your networking prospects and build credibility for your business.

The paper stock used for your print project is a key detail. It should help your project perform well and send the right message. Therefore, the type of paper you use is an important decision that needs careful consideration. You can choose from a wide variety of paper stock types for your business cards, posters, affordable postcards, flyers and more.

Before making any decisions about the characteristics you want for the paper, consider both the message and function of the print project. Think about whether the finished product will be handled frequently or put on display, such as an event poster. If it needs to withstand wear and tear or long-term usage, the paper’s durability is an important factor to consider. Coated paper is more resistant to dirt, moisture and wear. Determine whether the project should look more straightforward or artistic. This could make a difference in what you choose for the color or texture of the paper stock.

Coated paper is often used for projects involving art or photographs. The paper has a type of coating that prevents the paper fibers from absorbing the ink. This allows the ink to stay at the top of the paper and gives the paper a smooth and glossy texture. The smoothness can range from matte to gloss. Semi-matte and gloss are the best for images.

Postcard Printing Options

Coated paper is often used for projects involving art or photographs. The paper has a type of coating that prevents the paper fibers from absorbing the ink. This allows the ink to stay at the top of the paper and gives the paper a smooth and glossy texture.

  • Glossy Coated UV Postcard

A benefit of selecting a postcard with Glossy UV coating is that it can help protect and increase the longevity of the postcard. Additionally, the glossy UV can enhance the overall design.

Uncoated paper offers more texture than coated, but is usually better for projects that involve mostly text. More light reflects on coated paper, which can cause difficulty when trying to read text. Additionally, uncoated card stock allows the ink to absorb into the paper, which can result in slightly dull colors. The advantage is that you can easily write with a pen or pencil without fear of smudging. Such paper stock are generally used for appointment cards, real estate brochures, menus and others.

Uncoated card stock will allow the ink to absorb into the paper resulting in slightly duller colors. The advantage is that you can easily write with a pen or pencil without fear of smudging.

  • Uncoated Business Cards

Uncoated paper allows the ink to take in the paper, which can possibly result in somewhat duller colors. This paper allows you to easily write on them with pen or pencil without smudging. Uncoated business cards are a great selection if using them as appointment cards.

This lightweight card is perfect for anyone trying to achieve a traditional looking business card. The linen paper is nicely textured, yet still allows for writing and adds a touch of class!

  • 100LB Uncoated Linen Cover Stock

If you look closely to the logo, you can see the cross hatch design, which gives this paper a somewhat textured feel and look to it. Linen business cards are lightweight, that’s perfect for anyone trying to achieve a traditional looking business card.

The thickness and weight of your paper stock will affect its durability. Generally, heavier paper will be thicker, and the thinner paper will be lighter. If sent out in the mail, such as an Every Door Direct Mail postcard, keep in mind, they will be picked up, rifled through, and moved around, so a thicker paper would be a good option.

Your choice of paper stock will make a notable difference in how your project looks and feels. At Printsocial, we offer a free sample packet which includes a variety of paper stocks and finish.  If you carefully consider each characteristic of the paper and what will work best for your project, the paper you choose will greatly improve the quality of your finished product.

If you have any question about selecting the right paper, we’ll be happy to help you.

The Truth About Mommy Cards: Why Every Parent Needs One

Business Cards and Trading Cards are great for Mommy Cards. These cards are important and each parent should have some on hand.

A couple weeks ago, my six-year-old came home from school and said there was a new girl in her class. She asked if it would be ok to play with her on the weekend. So the next day, I sent a post-it note to school with her with my phone number on it. It felt […]

A couple weeks ago, my six-year-old came home from school and said there was a new girl in her class. She asked if it would be ok to play with her on the weekend. So the next day, I sent a post-it note to school with her with my phone number on it. It felt very cheesy.

Here I am, working for this great online print company, and I don’t have anything cute/professional-looking that contains my personal information. I changed that the next day. That’s when I thought about mommy cards, a creative way to use business cards.

Mommy Cards”(Mommy business cards, Mommy calling cards or trading cards) have been around for years; this isn’t a new concept by any means, but I can tell you that since I’ve had my own, I have gotten so much use out of them! I’ve set up play dates with school friends, handed out to other moms we meet at the park, given to acquaintances at church, given to other parents on their sports teams… the list really goes on and on. I truly feel that our social interaction with other parents and children has grown, due to the fact that I now have something to hand out. And, it’s been a great conversation starter!

Content for Your “Mommy Card?”

The first thing is to think about is how you are going to use the card. Where do you see yourself giving it out? What information do you want these people to have about you? If you are going to be handing it out to strangers you meet at the park, maybe you leave off your home address and just put your phone number and email address.

If the card is going to people you feel more comfortable with, maybe you include your Facebook or Twitter handle. If you want the card to send with your child to sleepovers and other events where you won’t be present, maybe you put your child’s medical information on it – especially if they have food allergies or special needs.

How Do You Design a “Mommy Card?”

Some “Mommy Cards” are kept very simple with just a couple lines of information while others include photos of you &/or your child. Some cards express the personality of the parent while others show off the fun nature of the child. This can be done by showing their favorite sports, favorite colors, a photo of them doing their favorite activities; I’ve even seen many cards with family photos too.

Some "Mommy Cards” are kept very simple with just a couple lines of information while others include photos of you &/or your child. Some cards express the personality of the parent while others show off the fun nature of the child.

I would recommend keeping the card small: Business cards or trading card sizes are best. You can keep it very simple, or you can have some fun with it by adding Spot UV, Foil or rounding the corners.
